What is Urology?
Urology is the study of the male and female genitourinary system. In general, this includes the study of the kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, bladder, and urethra. In men, this also includes the prostate, testes, and penis. Urologists are surgeons specializing in surgery of the genitourinary system.

Disorders that Urologists treat include (but are not limited to) the following:

Abington Urological Specialists is a general urology practice located in Abington, PA. There are 7 physicians and 1 nurse practitioner with varying interests - including voiding dysfunction, incontinence, urologic oncology and male infertility.

Training
Urologists complete a minimum of 5 - 6 years of training after medical school. All Urologists complete either 1 or 2 years of general surgery and then 4 years of specialization in Urologic surgery. Urologic training includes specialization in the areas of urologic oncology and pediatric urology.

Nurse practitioners have completed additional training in the area of urologic nursing. They specialize in performing diagnostic and therapeutic measures such as biofeedback, pessaries, urodynamics, and non-surgical management of various urologic problems.

Location
We are on the staff of Abington Memorial Hospital and Fox Chase Cancer Center and affiliated with the Abington Surgical Center and Keystone Kidney Center. Our office is located on Old York Road in Abington, PA (five miles north of Philadelphia) - directly across the street from Abington Memorial Hospital.

Directions to Abington Urological Specialists
From Center City: Take Route I-95 north to Route 73 west (Cottman Avenue). Follow Route 73, which becomes Township Line Road. Turn right at Old York Road (Route 611 North), Travel north approximately 2.4 miles. Our office is directly across from Abington Memorial Hospital, at 1235 Old York Road in the Levy Medical Plaza. Take a right at the traffic light onto Woodland Road, just past our building. You will see the parking garage an the right.

From the Pennsylvania Turnpike: Take exit 27 (Willow Grove. Route 611) and proceed 3.4 miles south an Route 611 (Easton Road and then Old York Road) to Woodland Road. Our office is directly across from the Abington Memorial Hospital. at 1235 Old York Road in the Levy Medical Plaza. Take a left at the traffic light onto Woodland Road, just before our building. You will see the parking garage on the right.

By public transportation: SEPTA buses (Route 55) stop in front of Abington Memorial Hospital on Old York Road. We are directly across from the hospital at 1235 Old York Road in the Levy Medical Plea. Nearby SEPTA train stations include: Willow Grove: Noble; Roslyn. and Jenkintown (R2 and R5 lines). These lines connect with Center City Philadelphia.

Affiliations
All members of our practice are members of the American Urologic Association and the Philadelphia Urological Society. Abington Urological Specialists include the Surgeon-in-chief at Abington Memorial Hospital, the Chief, Division of Urologic Oncology at the Fox Chase Cancer Center and the Directory of Male Infertility at the Toll Center for Reproductive Sciences. All of our physicians are active members of various hospital committees and actively involved in resident and nursing education.

Office Hours
Our office is open from Monday through Friday. Evening hours are available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for your convenience. One of our physicians is always on call, 24 hous a day, for emergency care. We appreciate at least one day's notice if you must cancel your appointment. Parking is available in the adjacent Levy Medical Plaza Garage at 1235 Old York Road.

Insurance Coverage
We accept most major insurance coverage and participate in Medicare and Managed Care programs. Visa and MasterCard are also accepted. We are happy to answer any of your insurance questions.
