Urinary incontinence, or loss of control over urinary flow, is a symptom, not a disease, that is experienced by over 12 million Americans. Of those, 15 to 30 percent of people over the age of 60 are incontinent. Women are twice as likely as men to suffer from incontinence. Yet fewer than half of these people seek medical help for their problem.

While it is often dismissed as a natural part of aging, bladder and bowel incontinence affects the emotional, psychological, and social quality of life of millions of people, keeping many from taking part in normal daily activities.
